Some fruit and vegetables have varieties that peak at different times, such as mushrooms. Mushrooms are available all year, but some types peak in the spring and autumn. If stocking up is a habit, buying more fruits and vegetables while they are in season, and then preserving them is a good idea. When you freeze, can, or preserve the food, you get the great taste while the produce is out of season.
