The secret to female suc­cess may be more boast­ing. A new study shows that while women have no trou­ble pro­mot­ing a friend and his or her accom­plish­ments, they tend to down­play their own achieve­ments. The researchers con­cluded that soci­etal norms make women feel they must act mod­estly; past research had already shown that men, on the other hand, are not affected by mod­esty norms. “This is in no way, shape or form to be blamed on women,” the lead researcher said. “It’s just part of our cul­ture, and it is our job to find ways to change these cul­tural norms.”
